In the beginning was the magazine. METAL first saw the light in June 2006, courtesy of Jazzmetal, as an independent publishing project with a curious eye and an international spirit, a heady mix of fashion, photography and art whose pages can boast some of the hottest talents of the moment.
6 years and a half and 28 issues on from that first number of just over 100 stapled pages, METAL is available in more than twenty countries, has positioned itself as an A-list magazine and has doubled its number of pages. During this time we have had the good fortune to interview a lot of people we admire – so many that it would be impossible to name them all.
So, in no kind of order, Dries Van Noten, John Galliano, Melvin Sokolsky, Ann Demeulemeester, Larry Clark, Kris Van Assche, Christophe Lemaire, Jean Jacques Picart, Rick Owens, Scott Matthew, Tilda Swinton, Marisa Berenson, Rodolfo Paglialunga, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Tim Blanks, Olivier Theyskens, Irene Silvagni, Lucas Ossendrijver, Harmony Korine and Devendra Banhart, to name but a few.
So it is that with the print magazine now firmly established on the market we have decided to commit ourselves more seriously to the online medium. METAL posted its first blog in March 2009, a modest step but also sign of our firm resolve not to lag behind the new technologies. From now on this will be our digital platform, where we communicate with the world. We will put up here a selection of the contents that appear in the print magazine, and also produce new content, which you will find in one of these three interlinked websites:

You can follow all our day-to-day goings-on here. Meanwhile, the print magazine is also ringing in the changes: METAL is going twice-yearly, with an issue per season, more pages and a larger print run. Not only that, but next winter’s issue – on the street in late September– will be unveiling a new design and a new concept. Yes, we like challenges. And we hope that the next six years will be at least as exciting as the first six. And there are more surprises in store, of course, so watch this space.
