The magazine was the starting point. METAL first saw the light in June 2006, courtesy of Jazzmetal, as an independent publishing project with a curious eye and an international spirit, a heady mix of fashion, photography and art whose pages can boast some of the hottest talents of the moment.
7 years and a half and 29 issues on from that first number of just over 100 stapled pages, METAL is available in more than twenty countries, has positioned itself as an A-list magazine and has doubled its number of pages.
During this time we have been fortunate enough to interview many people we admire. So, in no particular order, Dries Van Noten, John Galliano, Melvin Sokolsky, Ann Demeulemeester, Larry Clark, Kris Van Assche, Christophe Lemaire, Jean Jacques Picart, Rick Owens, Scott Matthew, Tilda Swinton, Marisa Berenson, Rodolfo Paglialunga, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Tim Blanks, Olivier Theyskens, Irene Silvagni, Lucas Ossendrijver, Harmony Korine and Devendra Banhart, just to name a few.
Now that the print magazine is firmly established on the market, we have decided to commit ourselves more seriously to the online version. Meta posted its first blog in March 2009, a modest step but also a sign of our firm resolution not to miss out on the latest media. From now on this will be our platform, from which we shall communicate with the world. In addition to a selection of contents that appear in the print magazine, we shall also be offering new and exclusive online content, which you will find in these three linked sites:
Meanwhile, the print magazine is also ringing the changes: METAL is now published twice a year, with more pages and a larger print run. Not only that, but next winter’s issue – on the street in late September– will be unveiling a new design and a new concept. Yes, we like challenges. And we hope that the next seven years will be at least as exciting as the first seven. And there are more surprises waiting, of course, so watch this space.
